The Iron Trunk
A farewell toast to a journey that spanned between 2 cities, 39 years apart and full of memories- some old and some in the making.
10 November 1979 - My dad came to Delhi from Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh, India) with this iron trunk and some Rs300 (~$4) my grandfather gave him. He had no idea where he was headed or what will he do once he reaches the capital city - New Delhi. Few months later UPSC happened to him and he got a job in the Supreme Court of India.
He retired in October'17 and on "6 May 2018" after 39 years he left the city forever with his iron trunk and left everything else behind. Its an irony how our parents generation thinks their success lies in the success of their kids, but mom & dad I see your story as the most successful.
The struggle you guys went through to provide us (my sister & I) with the best can never come close to the comfortable and much easier lives we have had.
Today as I start my life away from you guys after 28 years of staying together, its not funny how you have left me with 2 truck loads of stuff to begin with. You both literally left the home with me and are rebuilding your home once again from scratch in a new city.
